Children & Youth

Just as Jesus welcomed children, so do we. We believe children and youth are the church of the future and the church today. We offer a variety of ministries and programs for children and youth, including Sunday School, fellowship, choir, and service opportunities. All volunteers who work with children and youth undergo training re: appropriate boundaries and policies to ensure that all of God's children find St. John's Cathedral to be a truly safe and sacred place.

We offer Children's Church at 10:50 a.m. on Sundays during the school year. This service includes music, a Godly Play lesson and a snack, before joining the grown-ups at the 11:00 a.m. Eucharist just before the Passing of the Peace.

The Kids' Place: Nursery and Child Care

Our “Kids' Place" on the south side of Jewett House, ground floor, is a nursery for infants and toddlers and a place where younger children are part of a Christ-centered program during worship services and other events. Qualified caregivers provide a safe, warm and loving environment for young children.

Acolytes

Servers (Acolytes) assist the clergy and people in celebrating the liturgy. They lead processions and assist the priests and deacons at the altar. The Servers program is open to those 4th grade and older willing to attend training sessions, meetings and rehearsals and serve as scheduled. Dallas and Kathie Hawkins are the current Server Coordinators. If you have questions or would like to become involved, contact the church secretary, 838-4277.

Christian Formation on Sunday Mornings:

Children's Church, Preschool-Grade 6

Children experience music and a Biblical story-telling based curriculum, including stories from the Hebrew Bible, the basis of our Judeo-Christian heritage, stories of the birth and baptism of Jesus, the parables, stories of Jesus’ life and ministry, crucifixion and resurrection, and the lives of Jesus' disciples and their ministries.

Choir Class

The Junior Choir has its own church school class devoted to rehearsal of music for the liturgy.
